Audio Reviews: "Young actor Amon Purinton touches the hearts and
the funny bones of listeners in this unabridged reading. The child narrator for
this version makes the story more personal."
-School Library Journal "Perfect typecasting with the youthful Purinton
makes Soup a treasure."
-Booklist "Audiences of all ages will identify with Soup. Adults
will feel nostalgic, young people will feel like part of the gang and may seek
other titles in the series."
-AudioFile SYNOPSIS: Third-grader Rob and his friend Soup
are the source of nonstop mischief. Set in rural Vermont in the 1920's, Soup sets
the stage for some funny and poignant episodes for kids growing up - bullies at
school, a very proper church matron is put in her place by the two and a local
junk dealer catches them trying to cheat him. The old barrel and the chicken coop
mishap is a favorite scene. Some things never change and mischief is one of them.
Otherwise, it is interesting for young listeners to hear of the differences between
today and growing up poor on a Vermont farm. |
