Audio Reviews:
"What a wonderful sampling of rich
regional American writing is found here...Hughes and Bregy ably read Maggie
and other stories, including the intense 'An Experiment in Misery.'"
-Booklist
"Crane's muscular prose and gritty dialogue
are well-served by Terry Bregy and Melissa Hughes. Listening to this program is
akin to leaning out a window in turn-of-the century New York and eavesdropping
on life itself."
-AudioFile
"Terry Bregy reads with clarity and vigor,
employing ethnic accents without exaggeration and bringing the characters and
settings to life. This latest addition to the Voices series is outstanding."

SYNOPSIS:
Although his most famous work The Red Badge of
Courage (available from Audio Bookshelf in an unabridged audiobook) was created
almost entirely from his imagination, Stephen Crane sought out life's most demanding
lessons for himself in order to write about them. These four stories will amaze
the listener with their rich imagery, and deft exposure of the human condition
as well as the vivid picture they paint of turn-of-the-century New York City.
The audiobook begins with a thumbnail sketch of the author.
Stories included
are: An Experiment in Misery, The Reluctant Voyagers, A Desertion,
Maggie: A Girl of the Streets. |
